David Fortney is a consultant with a unique skill set, including both law and human resources. He has more than 20 years executive level experience in both areas, having served as the general counsel of a billion dollar health maintenance organization (HMO) as well as the vice president of human resources in a 4000 employee medical center/trauma center. Unlike many senior executives in law or human resources, Mr. Fortney also has had direct line responsibility, with accountability for P&L. This practical, hands-on experience uniquely qualifies him to provide services to organizational leaders. David Fortney provides professional services in three primary areas: internal investigations, one to one coaching and strategic planning. He has extensive interviewing experience, complemented by outstanding analytical and writing abilities. He brings these skills to assignments investigating claims of discrimination and/or harassment. He is frequently employed by organizations that don't have the resources to promptly respond to these types of claims, or in instances in which the allegations have a degree of sensitivity that it is advisable to have an outside professional handle the matter. He is able to apply his judgment and assessment skills toward advising the best course of action to resolve a claim. Mr. Fortney provides one to one coaching in two types of circumstances:when an employer wants to provide a developmental opportunity to an employee seen to have high potential; as well as in those instances in which an employee needs remedial work to improve his/her performance in the workplace. David Fortney started his consulting practice in 2003. He splits his time between his home in Golden Valley, Minnesota and his cabin on Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. When not working, he is an active volunteer at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and at the Golden Valley Animal Humane Society.
